Griffin Dyeworks Weekend Retreat
Camp Verdugo Oaks, Castaic, CA

Griffin Dyeworks sponsors a 3-day fiber retreat in the Tehachapi Mountains of Southern California.
An exciting fiber adventure that will keep you busy all weekend, you'll do the crafts you love,
meet local and faraway artists, and learn entirely new skills!

Some of the many classes and skills taught in the past include:

Dyeing: Natural Dyes and Mordants, Graduated dyeing with Jacquard dyes, Tie-dyeing, Shibori
Spinning: Navajo and Andean Plying, Spinning Wheel Care & Maintenance, Spinning Flax, Drop Spinning, How to use your new Wheel
Weaving: Warping and weaving on Inkle Looms, Card Weaving, Rigid Heddle Weaving, Types of Weaves, History of Weaving
Fiber Prep: Skirting and washing Icelandic fleece, Using Hand Cards, Using Wool Combs, Drafting fibers for woolen and worsted spinning
Braiding: Kumihimo, Fingerloop Braiding, Viking Whipcord Braiding
Other Fiber Skills: Sprang, Naalbinding, Tatting, Knitting, Tunisian Crochet, Embroidery, Felting
Everything else: Leather Stamping and Dyeing, Woodblock Carving, Wax Resist Dyeing, Lampwork Bead Making, Local History, ID'ing Bear Prints, Running through sprinklers

REGISTRATION FEES & DEADLINES

All fees include meals and snacks, natural dyeing, and access to free roving and other supplies. Minimal materials charge possible for other classes. On-premises shopping is available.


Sleeping on-site: 9am Friday-2pm Sunday
Includes lunch and dinner on Friday and Sunday, breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday, snacks, and accomodations.

Sleeping off-site: Day-Trippers
Lunch, dinner, and snacks served on Friday and Saturday, lunch only served on Sunday.

Registration Limit:
70 weekend overnighters, 50 day-trippers on Saturday and/or Sunday.

After Retreat registration is full, a wait-list will be maintained.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Sleeping arrangements are assigned on a first come, first served basis. For all accommodations, bring your own bedding.
Tents: There are 12 canvas-walled, floored tents with 2 cots in each. Pic 1 | Pic 2 | Pic 3
Cabins: The large bunkhouse sleeps 12 - 14 people on bunkbeds. A handicapped-friendly cabin is also available. Pic 1
Camping: There is unlimited camping for tents and room for some RVs (you provide tent, all camping gear).

REFUNDS:
20% will be charged for any cancellations whatsoever. Registrants get 80% refund only if we are notified 2 weeks in advance—by May 31, 2008—by telephone (NOT by e-mail). After that point in time only 50% of fee(s) will be refunded. No-shows do not get refund of any fees.

RETREAT CANCELLATION:
Griffin Dyeworks & Fiber Arts reserves the right to cancel Retreat if circumstances require it and will give notice to all registered participants in a timely fashion. Griffin Dyeworks & Fiber Arts is responsible only for applicable Retreat refunds, not for any other costs incurred by workshop participant.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
Enclose self-addressed stamped envelope for mailed registration acknowledgment. Otherwise your Retreat registration will be acknowledged by email.
